Cremation Prices

Before considering Cremation Prices, it is first important to understand what exactly it is. Cremation is a derivative of the latin word “cremo”, which means to burn. Cremation is the incineration of a deceased person’s remains, after which the bone fragments are then turned into ash using a cremulator. While this may seem a distressful procedure for the family, it has actually become extremely popular, not least because of the cremation cost and prices. Although it differs on a case by case basis, the price comparison between traditional burial and cremation costs, have found that cremation can be as much as 25% cheaper than burial. With no major opposition from mainstream Christian churches, this method has begun to gather a sizeable following. Let’s look quickly at some of the reasons why cremations are cheaper:

Firstly, we must consider some of the major costs that are associated with even the simplest of cheap funerals. The most expensive part of a traditional funeral is the burial lot, something is not necessary for cremation, and as such makes a big difference in the cost of cremation versus the traditional funeral.

Secondly, cremation prices tend to be lower than interment because of the massive costs associated with caskets and coffins. Even basic wooden coffins can cost substantial figures which can be a major burden and financial concern for friends and family of the deceased. With cremation, the only cost on this front is the provision of a urn or latched box, which will house the remains of the deceased.

Thirdly, and perhaps most likely to be overlooked, are that church services, funeral rites, wakes and burial, not to mention funeral homes and embalming, all stack up the burial costs as opposed to cremation prices. We could go so far as to say that the costs of entertaining and incidental costs such as food and drink at an open wake could be avoided, but this is not exclusively a practice for either burial or cremation. That said, as outlined above, cremation prices are far cheaper.

There are certainly ways of having a quick, low cost cremation. This is known within the “industry” as a west chapel service, or delivery only. In this case, families are able to do away with the traditional funeral and memorial services and rather opt for immediate cremation, upon which they can take the cremains (cremated remains) home with them.
